LAAPSA Benefits Information

LEGAL DEFENSE FUND – Coverage is provided by LAAPSA through our membership in PORAC. Payments are made from your association dues at a rate of $19.50 per member, per month to provide this coverage.

Our Association carries the "Plan 1" coverage. A summary of the plan is shown below.

LDF Benefit Plan 1 – Civil, Criminal and Administrative Actions

A Participant whose Member Association has chosen Benefit Plan 1 shall be entitled to the following services:

a)      Legal representation in any civil or criminal action and representation by a Panel Attorney or Panel Field Representative in an administrative disciplinary action brought against him or her arising from any act or omission of the Participant within the scope of his or her employment, including civil, criminal or administrative disciplinary action brought as the result of the Participant’s involvement in Concerted Labor Activity, subject to certain conditions.

b)      Representation by a Panel Attorney or Panel Field Representative in any departmental administrative investigation or informal non-adversary pre-disciplinary hearing, e.g., a Skelly hearing, if the action arose from an act or omission of the Participant not within the scope of his or her employment.

LDF coverage is provided to dues-paying members ONLY!

OPTICAL PLAN - All LAAPSA members and their spouses are eligible to receive optical benefits through EyeMed Vision Care.

You are entitled to an eye exam and one pair of glasses every 12-months. There is no cost to our member unless you choose to go outside the EyeMed provider network or you choose to upgrade your glasses with other special features.

Members must submit an enrollment form before their coverage is activated. To add a spouse, follow the additional instructions found here.

You must have your member ID available when receiving benefits. If you have forgotten your ID number or have any problems obtaining services, please contact your LAAPSA Benefits Coordinator, Sgt. Randall Blayney. To find your local provider, visit the EyeMed Vision Care website.

ACCIDENTAL DEATH & DISMEMBERMENT – PORAC provides the “Core Plan” coverage to all members without charge. Coverage amounts are: $10,000 for on-duty incidents / $2,000 for off-duty.

(NOTE: All members are required to submit an “Enrollment Form” to activate the AD&D coverage. Forms are available from your Directors)

LIFE INSURANCE - Each LAAPSA member is insured for $50,000 of life insurance through PORAC. The plan is administered by Myers-Stevens, & Toohey. This policy also provides each member with an additional $50,000 of Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) coverage. To view a copy of the Life Insurance policy click here!

LONG-TERM DISABILITY (Plan A) – Members are entitled to receive 66 2/3% of their salary (up to $5,000) monthly while unable to work due to an accident or illness. Coverage is provided through our membership in PORAC and includes a $50,000 death benefit.

Death Benefits - In the event of an on-duty death of a LAAPSA member the Board will authorize up to $3000 for the payment of immediate financial obligations such as mortgages, utility bills, or funeral expenses.

RETIRED ASSOCIATE MEMBERS

At the November 2006 Annual Conference, the membership voted on a new membership classification specifically for Retirees who want to remain PORAC members.  This membership is available to current and prior PORAC members that have retired or are in the process of retiring.  There are benefits to continuing your membership in PORAC.
